Saturday morning we headed to the cabin, swapping houses with Kevin. He got in some quality time with Brooklyn, and we got in some quality time with the outdoors. The cabin is pretty much one of my most favourite places to be–it’s so peaceful and feels like we have escaped to the middle of nowhere, but can get there in about 40mins from our place. Perfection! Last minute plans we were able to round up a few of our friends to come and join in with us. We did some hiking, an awful lot of kid corralling, some drinking, cooking, dice playing…was a really lovely weekend getaway.
A definite benefit from the running I have been doing lately is having the stamina to go on a 3k hike through the bush with a 27lb sack of sleeping potatoes on my back. She was ADAMANT that Mama carried her…and thusly my motivation to keep getting in shape, has to be this babe of mine!
Miss Z is VERY into colouring these days…she spotted Papa’s pen and note pad by the phone last time we were at the cabin and remembered and made a beeline for it Saturday morning. I am sure my father in law is delighted with all the scribbley notes she left for him. Honestly though I am so thrilled she is liking crafts–can’t wait for all the fun creative things we can do together!
I still can’t believe how big these girls are! We have pics of the mum’s pregnant with these three, and pics of them all hanging out as babies…and now as toddlers. I feel so fortunate that our group of friends all had babies together! It is so nice when we hang out as they can entertain/get into trouble together.
I did my first big run with Emily and Meg (nearly dying in the process)–photo here
It finally felt like spring….although we did get snow a week later, it felt amazing to enjoy the weather, sitting on the deck, blowing countless bubbles for the kids and reminiscing about previous cabin visits. We host the same group of friends every winter for Garret’s birthday and they all really enjoyed hiking where we usually snowshoe! Here’s to many more cabin weekends, and outdoor adventures this season!
How lovely to see such a great group of friends with their beautiful babies .
