Garret turned 32 this week which is wonderful because it now marks a few months where I am only three years older. July rolls around and it bumps back up to four….and he cherishes reminding me of being his ‘old lady’ at any chance he gets. Z now gets the idea of birthdays and presents and CAKE oh man Cake….this was a really fun birthday as she was excited for it all week, had made him a card with Nana and practiced singing him happy birthday. Z and Nana baked a cake and Zo decorated it and we all enjoyed after dinner. She only had eyes for “the cake Daddy I made a cake” We managed to force a few mouthfuls of dinner down her, but girl was pumped for the cake. She sang her heart out and helped blow out the candles. It was just so SO much fun.
Now we are preparing for the 7th annual birthday party at the Cabin. Guy’s night tonight, grownups day/night tomorrow and family day tomorrow for the Superbowl. It has been one of our longest lasting yearly traditions that our group of friends really look forward to. Reflecting on 7 years it is amazing to see how much we have all changed, marriages, babies, second babies….we are all growing up…yikes. What used to be a weekend long hangover has changed to us passing out from exhaustion of child rearing plus a glass of wine. (well at least for the Mums) The Dad’s still seem to manage to get some drinking done 🙂
Dear Brooklyn Springsteen Walsh,
You are 1 today!!! You have brought so much joy into our lives–we never thought that we would love you so much. Thank you for teaching us a lot about patience, parental worry and responsibility. You are snugly, high energy, and occasionally smelly…the perfect fit for our family.
Thank you for being our furry girl,
Love your parents
Since July, my mum’s best friend Barb and I have been doing some serious sneaking. Party planning sneaking that is! My Mum turned 60 this month and we really thought it would be great to throw a surprise party for her. After many email, text and phone call planning sessions, this past Saturday came and the party was a huge success! She was totally surprised and it was even better than I thought it would be. (tears, incessant giggles etc) Lots of friends and family, laughs, cake, delicious snacks and bevies. Lots of people helped make it run so smoothly. (Barb made a ton of food, opened her beautiful home as a venue and played hostess with the mostess, Renee made a beautiful cake and some delicious appies, Nicki brought a yummy spinach dip, my brother Taylor even made a bean salad…) The party colours were black and pink so I got G to contribute by wearing his pink shirt. He obviously loves me since he put up with some mild mannered ribbing from Uncle Dave regarding the pink shirt! Anyway it was a lovely lovely day. Turns out I loooove throwing parties! I guess it didn’t hurt that I love the guest of honour so much–made all the running around totally worth it.
Here we are hanging out in our brand new hammock. Technically I should say “my new hammock” since G surprised me with it as an early birthday present (hence # 943 on the list of why i love him) I sense a lot of hangout time in that bad boy so hurray for our new hammock! The back yard is slowly but surely coming together…I will let G post about the shed part 2. Our next task is digging the horseshoe pit along the new fence (I haven’t mentioned yet but the neighbours are building a fence which is awesome) More pics to come soon
