Weekend Report–Catch up Edition Apr 12th

Saturday morning we headed to the cabin, swapping houses with Kevin.  He got in some quality time with Brooklyn, and we got in some quality time with the outdoors.  The cabin is pretty much one of my most favourite places to be–it’s so peaceful and feels like we have escaped to the middle of nowhere, but can get there in about 40mins from our place.  Perfection!  Last minute plans we were able to round up a few of our friends to come and join in with us.  We did some hiking, an awful lot of kid corralling, some drinking, cooking, dice playing…was a really lovely weekend getaway.

A definite benefit from the running I have been doing lately is having the stamina to go on a 3k hike through the bush with a 27lb sack of sleeping potatoes on my back. She was ADAMANT that Mama carried her…and thusly my motivation to keep getting in shape, has to be this babe of mine!

Miss Z is VERY into colouring these days…she spotted Papa’s pen and note pad by the phone last time we were at the cabin and remembered and made a beeline for it Saturday morning.  I am sure my father in law is delighted with all the scribbley notes she left for him.  Honestly though I am so thrilled she is liking crafts–can’t wait for all the fun creative things we can do together!

I still can’t believe how big these girls are!  We have pics of the mum’s pregnant with these three, and pics of them all hanging out as babies…and now as toddlers.  I feel so fortunate that our group of friends all had babies together!  It is so nice when we hang out as they can entertain/get into trouble together.

It finally felt like spring….although we did get snow a week later, it felt amazing to enjoy the weather, sitting on the deck, blowing countless bubbles for the kids and reminiscing about previous cabin visits.  We host the same group of friends every winter for Garret’s birthday and they all really enjoyed hiking where we usually snowshoe!  Here’s to many more cabin weekends, and outdoor adventures this season!

Young House Super Love

The thing about reading someone’s blog is that you start to feel like you know them.  It is different than the familiarity you might feel with an actor or someone else, because you get to know bloggers on a different level.  You read about their lives, their families etc, and over time you develop what is obviously a one-sided relationship.  Meeting John and Sherry last night was really awesome, yet also kind of strange that someone you feel close with doesn’t know you exist!  It was really neat to get to West Elm and see the ton of people lined up through the store who all obviously feel the same way about these two people.  It was funny overhearing all the conversations while we were in line about how long people had been reading Young House Love and how they all were excited too.  My friends Meagan and Harrison and I went and met up with some super nice people in line…thankfully because we were there for three hours!  I thought that the rain would keep more people away…but alas others were just as excited to come out.  We did some people watching, window shopping at West Elm and good conversation made the line go faster.

A totally un-house related post

One of my oldest and dearest friends has been trying unsuccessfully to get pregnant for the past three or so years.  She, much like myself and many of my other girlfriends, just assumed that when she and her husband were ready to start their family it would just happen.  Unfortunately due to several issues it turned out that “just happening” was not going to happen for them.  The past few months have been a lot of back and forth with  tests, needles, hormones, waiting, more tests, finding a better doctor, more needles and  more waiting.  The past few weeks she has been giving herself needles to get ready for the procedure that happened over the weekend.  Yesterday she went through her IVF procedure and is now deemed “pregnant until proven otherwise”  I have every extremity crossed (not just my fingers), and am sending prayers and positive energy out into the universe that this works for them.  She has always been one of the most supportive, positive and encouraging people I know, and watching her go through this has been awful.  There is nothing I can say or do that can really help, and I am sure that some of my well meaning comments over the past few years really haven’t helped. (and likely have been more insensitive than I knew at the time).  Not having gone through this myself, and not really knowing other people going through this right now, it has been so hard to know what to say.  And when you are broken hearted hearing someone try to cheer you up with cheesy platitudes probably is really annoying.

It likely sounds weird to say that someone deserves a baby, but this friend does.  So anyone that reads this today please send a thought or a prayer out there because this just has to work.  Her belief in the magic of Christmas and her general happy spirit have been so crushed lately and this is the only thing that can bring them back.

Dining out

Last night we went to Sticky Fingers for their awesome wing night! It was so nice to get out with friends. Erin and Steve were out for a bit as we had some presents for their daughter.

G informed me that we have to buy Molly presents with less pieces next time. She kept pointing and making him add more foam pieces to the little diorama he was making her

And Tara and Stephen (my childhood friend and her husband) were home visiting for the holidays so we got
to catch up as well. It was a really nice night and a total last minute get together which was awesome!

Cheers! We sent this pic to Tara's sister Michele so she could see what she was missing!
