Weekend Report–Catch up Edition Apr 12th

Saturday morning we headed to the cabin, swapping houses with Kevin.  He got in some quality time with Brooklyn, and we got in some quality time with the outdoors.  The cabin is pretty much one of my most favourite places to be–it’s so peaceful and feels like we have escaped to the middle of nowhere, but can get there in about 40mins from our place.  Perfection!  Last minute plans we were able to round up a few of our friends to come and join in with us.  We did some hiking, an awful lot of kid corralling, some drinking, cooking, dice playing…was a really lovely weekend getaway.

A definite benefit from the running I have been doing lately is having the stamina to go on a 3k hike through the bush with a 27lb sack of sleeping potatoes on my back. She was ADAMANT that Mama carried her…and thusly my motivation to keep getting in shape, has to be this babe of mine!

Miss Z is VERY into colouring these days…she spotted Papa’s pen and note pad by the phone last time we were at the cabin and remembered and made a beeline for it Saturday morning.  I am sure my father in law is delighted with all the scribbley notes she left for him.  Honestly though I am so thrilled she is liking crafts–can’t wait for all the fun creative things we can do together!

I still can’t believe how big these girls are!  We have pics of the mum’s pregnant with these three, and pics of them all hanging out as babies…and now as toddlers.  I feel so fortunate that our group of friends all had babies together!  It is so nice when we hang out as they can entertain/get into trouble together.

It finally felt like spring….although we did get snow a week later, it felt amazing to enjoy the weather, sitting on the deck, blowing countless bubbles for the kids and reminiscing about previous cabin visits.  We host the same group of friends every winter for Garret’s birthday and they all really enjoyed hiking where we usually snowshoe!  Here’s to many more cabin weekends, and outdoor adventures this season!

December Daily Weekend 20-21 Edition

IMG_20141220_194836_edit Xmas imagejpeg_2 Me and em 20141220_100036 20141220_102801This weekend was about driving to Meaford, some last minute Christmas shopping, and time spent with my mother in law, brother in law and future (we all hope!) sister in law.  Zoë getting spoiled and snuggled and loved on by family. Garret got a new truck, and cleaned our old one til it looked brand new (don’t think it has ever been so clean) Sunday morning was all about getting to go back to sleep while my MIL hung out with our little early riser.  G and I got to go back to bed from 7-9…life changing.  There was a lot of driving around this weekend, some naps in cars, cuddles with dogs, and two chances to dress up.  Not enough pictures taken by me so had to steal some.

This weekend was also about  managing expectations as a parent. Realizing it is TOTALLY OK to bring a 15month old to a party in her super cute Christmas jammies.  Even if you packed a super adorable dress for the occasion…Realizing that life with a walking, clumsy, death defying feat hunting toddler is obviously different.  We cannot just relax at dinner parties any longer. (Unless they are being hosted in a child proof rubber room)  These things are OK, this is our life right now, and if we can manage tag team eating styles, we simultaneously eat and keep our daughter alive, then what more can we ask for.

Weekend Report–the Ontario Road trip edition

This past weekend was amazing but not all that restful.  We (mostly Garret) did a lot of driving and had some great adventures.

Friday night I stayed downtown after work and went to see the NKOTB, Boys II Men and 98degrees concert.  My friends husband was given box seats which he generously bestowed upon us.  My Mum took me to see the New Kids in ’91 or ’92 and it was my first concert, and now 20 odd years later it was Gus’s first concert too!  G is slightly worried I am skewing the babes musical taste, but really who doesn’t love 90’s music?

Saturday morning my throat was sore and I think G was embarrassed on my behalf to hear that I was actually screaming my head off all night.  I am sorry but when Jordan Knight tells you to scream? you SCREAM with all you have.  Michelle and I drove back to Barrie and didnt get home until 1am (which for this pregnant chick is crazy late)

Saturday morning we were up early and drove up to North Bay to celebrate G’s Grandma’s birthday–I will have to upload pictures from the other camera.  It was a long trip, but definitely worth it to spend some time with family and eat a ton of baked goods.  We drove home Saturday night and just took it easy on the mega couch.

Sunday morning we headed off to Niagara with some friends for a prebooked Wag Jag night away.

This was the only way we could figure out a "fallsview" room. hahaha G is very creative

This was the only way we could figure out a “falls view” room. hahaha G is very creative.  We actually overlooked a gorgeous parking lot…oooh fancy

We walked around for hours and took some pictures of the falls and had some relaxing time on a very loud (and grossly sticky) patio

I also made a valiant attempt to recreate a photo we took 6 years ago but kind of missed the mark:

the top picture is from 2008 when Garret surprised me with a night away for my birthday. Interesting to note: I am wearing the same sunglasses

We got back to Barrie on Monday afternoon and did some house work (thrilling as it sounds)  G moved the bed out of our spare room and we moved the crib (gulp) up in it’s place.  We haven’t built it yet, but this gets the giant box out of our hallway so that is a start.

One step closer. gulp

One step closer to being a room ready for a baby.

It seems that each day something happens to make us feel a little more ready or freaked out or “ermagerd this is actually happening”ish.   While we were watching a show before bed Gus was being particularly active and G finally got to feel a kick/jab (or “upper cross” if you ask him)  These things happen and then we look at each other and query if this really is happening? We are having a baby?! Then we laugh and make jokes about the babe and try to enjoy these last glimpses of what soon shall be ‘what was’.

Bachelory Things

Last night I had a flash forward to my future…as I watched Garret get packed for his bachelor party I 100% saw my future child getting packed up and ready for camp. He was giddy with excitement and fielding phone calls from the other guys about who was bringing what.  They are only gone for two days but he brought six dress shirts, three pairs of shoes and about nine tee shirts.  We joke that he is like George Costanza   It is frustrating when I am trying to share a suitcase with him, but endearing otherwise.

Packing only essentials

Amongst all the “essential’ over packing needs, please note  Brutus, our white brass buffalo.  Few people know this but he is sort of the ShWalsh family mascot–he comes with us places like a travelling gnome. Garret makes videos of him getting up to no good, and he along with the other guys decided that he had to make the trip to Montreal as well.  I am wondering if he, along with everyone else will make it home in one piece!
